Postdoctoral research positions 2007

 

 

The Institute of Social Sciences, University of Lisbon, is an institution for advanced research and postgraduate studies mainly in the fields of Social Anthropology, Political Science, History, Sociology, Social Psychology and Environment Studies.

The Institute is offering post-doctoral positions in social sciences. Applicants should have recently earned their PhD and wish to spend a period of three years as postdoctoral fellows at ICS. The Institute is particularly open to applications in the areas described below, but applications from candidates with a high academic profile in the different social sciences are welcome.

 

Postdoctoral positions available in 2007

 

·        1 postdoctoral position to take part in a project on Comparative Regional Integration

The applicant should be a political scientist or international relations scholar with a track record of publications in the field. International experience and availability for doing fieldwork abroad is most welcome.

·        1 postdoctoral position to take part in a project on Electoral Behaviour and Political Attitudes

The applicant should be a political scientist with publications and interest in working in the field. International experience and availability for doing fieldwork abroad is most welcome.

  • 1 postdoctoral position to take part in a project on Authoritarian Legacies and Democratic Consolidation

 The applicant should be a political scientist with publications and interest in working in the field. International experience is most welcome.

 

  • 2 postdoctoral positions to work in the area of Sustainable Development

One position will work on-going and future projects on the social dimension of the new energy challenges and climate change. The applicant should preferably be a sociologist, a social psychologist or an economist.  The second position will integrate a research project on Education for Sustainable Development. The applicant should preferably be an economist or an engineer with previous research experience on sustainability issues.

 

·        2 postdoctoral positions work in the area of Intergroup Relations and Immigration Issues

 

Candidates should be interested in developing research on intergroup relations and immigration in an experimental and in a cross-cultural and longitudinal perspective.

 

·        4 postdoctoral  positions interested in developing research in The Political, Social and Economic History of the European states and their imperial and international relations

 

  • 1 postdoctoral position in Urban Studies 

Candidates should be social scientists with experience in Urban Studies, namely metropolitan areas, urban politics and governance.

 

·        1 postdoctoral position  in Health Studies

Candidates should be social scientists with experience in Health Studies, and in particular youth’s sexual behaviour.

 

·        1 postdoctoral position to work in the area of Therapeutic Practices in Comparative Perspectives. 

 

All candidates are required to have research experience and an outline for an individual project. 

 

Applications should include a c.v., a cover letter describing research interests, samples of scholarly work, the research project they propose to undertake and the names of two referees who would be willing to write letters of recommendation. Financial support for these fellowships is available through the Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (The Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology), to which an application should also be made separately. The fellowship will offer a salary of 1495 Euro monthly, value fixed by FCT for postdoctoral grants assigned in Portugal (http://www.fct.mctes.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores). Office space will be provided, use of computer, access to email and the internet, ICS Library as well as financial support to develop research.

 

Applications are open from May 15 until September 6. A first evaluation of applications will occur in the last week of June. A second evaluation will be take place until September 28.
